Beautiful Brunette

Beautiful Brunette

Whether you emulate the sultry beauty of Angelina Jolie or the utter charm of Katie Holmes, there are so many reasons to be your most beautiful brunette. And with the many fabulous hair products your stylist can use, and the new techniques for hair color application, there is every reason your hair color can be radiant, shiny and perfect for your skin tone. Today’s hair products allow you and your hair colorist to create volume and depth with the stroke of a paintbrush. From leave-in conditioning treatments to shiny glaze/tone, there are abundant ways to guarantee that your beautiful brunette hair is rich, highlighted and healthy.

So is brunette the right hair color for you? In general, if you are trying to figure out how to pick the best color for you, you should stick to colors that compliment your skin tone, and also figure out if you’re better off with single-process color or if you prefer the lift of highlights. It really helps to know what colors you’re naturally drawn to.

If your natural hair color is currently a mousy brown, and feels boring and drab, then you should explore heightening the shade of brown, instead of completely changing your hair color. These days a beautiful brunette can choose whether to have a reddish tint to her hair or more of a caramel glint.

If you want a low maintenance regimen them brown is an excellent choice because the upkeep is really simple – unless, of course, you are naturally very blonde or very very grey.

If your hair is badly damaged, or dull, then dark hair color is an excellent choice, as it is the most reflective of light, it hides breakage, and minimizes the flaws of damaged hair.

However, when you are deciding on brown, you have to be careful what shade you pick. Super dark shades can wash you out and even make you appear older. However, you can, instead choose the very trendy “blonde hairstyles” for brunettes for the perfect sun-kissed look. There are so many great techniques for adapting your favorite hair-color to your skin tones and personal style.

Brown hair does not have to be mousy, so go ahead and take a chance – lighten up your hair with highlights or enrich a washed-out color with reddish low-lights!

Something about Redheads

I guess the best way to show why reds have something special is to show the same person as a blonde and as a redhead.  On the left Briana came in for a touch up as a blonde and I suggested she should try being a Redhead.  As you can clearly see she looks stunning as a redhead. The red brings out her skin tones, eyes and her features. Most important it changes how she feels about herself.  She has a much classier look and one would take her more seriously as a redhead.  This was fun to do and you can see how it was done on my video “Blonde go’s Strawberry”  Check it out.

For Briana Redken Fusion and Redken Shades E.Q. was used on her.

Hair Color and Pools

I’m always asked “what should I do if I go into a pool?  If you’re not going to use a racers cap, then the next best thing is to either:

(a) shower and shampoo right away.

  1. if that is not possible, then take a bottle of plain carbonated water and pour all of it over your head.  The carbonation for some reason opens the cuticle  and allows the water to rinse most of the chlorine out of the hair.  Of course each time you get your hair wet with pool water you must do the same procedure.

(c) when you do have a chance to shampoo, try                  “TriSwim” shampoo.  To see the ingredients click here. It should help quite a bit.

Chlorine has bleach in it to kill bacteria.  Chlorine also has copper in it.   Depending on the type and amount of Chlorine  the more bleach and copper it has in it.  Chlorine will fade and strip the color out of your hair.  Blondes could turn green.  Reds can fade orange or turn brownish.    Be good to your hair and your hair will be good to you.

SHOULD YOU BE BLONDE?

In California everyone wants to be blonde.  Stand on any corner of Los Angeles  and see 35 blondes. For  most it is NOT the best color.   Is it the right color for you?  Believe it or not, most people fare better with more depth in their hair color.  It is the way to enhance skin tones.   This can be done by adding shadow lights and creating the right tone for the highlights.  Wouldn’t you love to stand apart from everyone else?   I love blondes, but I find “Red Heads” and Brunettes  far more interesting.  Think about it and see what’s right for you! Create your own image and unique style.

    Hey Cal:

You did my coloring about 10 years ago, when you were in the shop on a small street off Wilshire Blvd. You are the best in the business, an expert beyond compare.

Recently, very suddenly, I’ve suddently started to get rashes, redness, flaking on my face and around the hair line only. Was using Goldwell permanent 6A and 6N, switched to semi-permanent of same, then tried Paul Mitchell semi-permanent, tried Clairol semi-permament, still get a facial rash and facial flaking but less than with the permanent.

Can you recommend anything? Is there something that can be added to the semi-permanent hair color? Is there a hypo-allergenic color brand that you can recommend? Any help would be most appreciated.

Although it’s a bit of a drive for me, if you feel I should come see you for a consultation/assessement, I’d be happy to do it.

    Thanks.

I do remember you. My goodness some how I missed your comment on my website. I am so sorry. Are you still having this same problem? Kate, without really seeing what is happening to you, it really would be better if I could see what is going on. And I am sure that this is not helping your stress level. If there is any way you might be able to get into this area, please lets arrange a day and time. Please call me at the salon. 310.717.5809. It would be good to see you again.

      All the best,

      Cal
